Day 4, Tahoe Rim Trail

I got some terrific views from the slops of Barker Peak. The clouds made the pictures, but also promised of the coming rain. After about 5 miles the TRT (Tahoe Rim Trail) departs from the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) and decent into Ward Creek, which leads to Tahoe City. The thing about Tahoe City is that it is just where the Truckee River leaves Lake Tahoe and so it is on the Tahoe Rim.

Checked into a motel, got myself cleaned up, it is amazing how much dirt can accumulates in 4 days of hiking.

It started to rain, but I was already in town.

Day 3, Tahoe Rim Trail

From my camp at Aloha Lake I motored through Susie Lake and Dicks Pass. After a long stop by Fontanillis Lake I met a man who was doing the Tahoe Rim Trail in the opposite direction. We talked at length about the trail conditions and the lack of water in the north and east sections.

It rain that afternoon as I made my way by Lost Corner Mountain, Richardson Lake and Sourdough Hill. It finally stopped raining, but than came the mosquitoes that seemed to control every possible water source. I found a place on dry ground away from mosquitoes to setup my tent for the night.

Day 2, Tahoe Rim Trail

Early today I motored through Miess Meadow, Shower Lake and Echo Summit and went into the Echo Lake Chalet. This is just my second day, so I don’t need resupply here, just an ice cream bar and I am back on the trail.

I made a mistake of not filling up my water bottle at the chalet. I thought there will be water in streams right on the trail, but there is none. I had to make a detour to Tamarack Lake to get water. Then strolled into Aloha Lake to setup camp. The lake water looks inviting, so I went in for a dip in the water. It is great to feel clean.

Day 1, Tahoe Rim Trail

Star Lake. It is already 9 AM, but some people are just getting out of their tent. I already covered 4 miles

Met Fred on the trail hiking towards me. He was in a group going to climb Freel Peak. Later it started to rain and hail as I was nearing Big Meadow. I took a shelter under a group of trees. Camped on the edge of Round Lake.

Day 0, Tahoe Rim Trail

TRT mile 0 – Parked my truck at the Stagecoach Chairlift parking area in Heavenly Ski resort. It is too early to turn in, so I started on the trail. I forgot my hiking boots so I am going in my sneakers.

TRT mile 5 – setup camp just below Monument Pass. There is cell phone signal here probably from Minden.
